Artificial Intelligence Policy

The Journal of Nutritional Research & Dietetics (JNRD) acknowledges the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and writing. This policy outlines the journal’s expectations regarding the ethical and transparent use of AI technologies.

1. Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use AI tools (including generative AI systems and language editing tools) to improve grammar, clarity, or language quality. However, AI tools must not be listed as authors, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript. The use of AI must not result in fabricated data, false citations, or misleading content.

If AI tools were used during manuscript preparation, authors must disclose this use in the Title Page or Acknowledgements section.

2. AI in Data Analysis and Research Design

If AI tools are used for data analysis, modeling, screening, or interpretation, the tool and (where applicable) its version should be reported in the Methods section. The use of AI must be scientifically justified and described in a manner that supports transparency and reproducibility. Authors remain fully accountable for all results and interpretations.

3. AI in Peer Review and Editorial Handling

Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts, peer review reports, or any confidential journal material to external generative AI platforms or services. This is necessary to protect confidentiality and to comply with data protection principles.

4. Responsibility and Accountability

AI tools cannot assume legal or ethical responsibility. Therefore, authors are solely responsible for all content submitted to the journal, including text, data, references, and conclusions. The editorial office may request clarification regarding AI use where necessary. Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may result in rejection, correction, or retraction, in line with the journal’s publication ethics policies.
